Our Story

From Monroe County, MI to Monrovia, West Africa

The Philbeck Foundation was created out of a simple conviction: when we see people hurting, we have a responsibility to step in and help. We have been blessed with resources, opportunities, and relationships, and we believe those blessings come with an obligation to give back.

Our work focuses on very practical needs: making sure families have food on the table, a safe place to sleep, clothes to wear, and support when life feels overwhelming. These are not abstract ideas to us; they are real people, often in our own communities, who need someone to stand with them.

The foundation is guided by words from the book of Isaiah:

“Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?”
(Isaiah 58:7)

That passage captures the heart of what we do: caring for people in tangible ways. We are also reminded by James that faith and good intentions mean little if they are not backed up with action. And Jesus put it plainly: to whom much is given, much is required.

So for us, giving back isn’t about charity as much as it is about responsibility. We feel called to use what we have been entrusted with to meet needs, break down barriers, and restore dignity where it’s been lost.
